THE NEW PARTY
DIFFERENCES IN THE RANKS. CHANGE OF NAME PROPOSED. (SPECIAL TO "THE rKESS. - ') WELLINGTON. June 2. A meeting pf the leading members of the Wilford-Statham-Veitch party is being held here to-night. It is understood that differences have arisen in the party, and probably to-night's meeting is concerned with the patching up of these. It is stated also, on good authority, that the leader of the party is experiencing some difficulty in getting suitable candidates 'n some of the electorates to come forward at the coming general election. In one North Inland constituency a former Liberal, whose support was counted on, has, with his friends, gone over to the Reform camp. The party is not satisfied with its present designation, and before long it is stated that the name will again l>e altered It will probably assume the old designation of the Seddonian regime, and call itself the Liberal and Labour Party, hoping to detach a number of the more, moderate Labourites from the Holland Pariv.
