AMERICAN SHIPPING SERVICE. (By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received June 2nd, 9.55 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 1. As a result of the inability of American shipowners to arrive at an agreement with the London Conference concerning South African freight rates, the Shipping Board has announced that independent rates will bo fixed for a new American line of seven vessels plying between New York and South Africa, the service beginning on June 24th. in order to enable American exporters to compete on an equal basis with British exporters to South Africa. The lino will carry passengers also.
