RHODES CUP TOTJENAMENT. Yesterday tho weather wm fino, cold, for the Rhodes Cup tournament. The wind had a, good drying effect ,on the ground, and some excellent polo was Been in bo;h games. . There was a good attendance, ot spectators ' throughout the afternoon, not-, withstanding the bleaknose oi tho day. "ih* results woio as followe; RHODES CTO. Third Bound. Amuri, handicap 11 (Sj. Macfariano captain, 11. Gould, D. Gould, E. Daviisou) b*\it Clmstchurcii A, handicap 9 (Major Hutton captain, Captain TaJiu Rhodes, B. il. Wood, and P. Johnson) by 17 goaia to ;1-1. Tho game was full of intertot t-o tho cptetatora, being played at a great paco. Long 1 shota and splendid returns were tho ojmar throughout, and the final result showed- that tho handicapper bad exhibited good" judgment in allowing a differonco of only two goals between the teams. Tho game played with the Utmost vigour, and the fact that few penalties were given by the umpiru against either aide was a tribute to the standard of the polo. Captain Tahu Rhodes had a heavy fall through hia pony losing its feet in turning, but he was able to reeumo after*a brief interval, and ..was subsequently none tho worse for tho mishap. roorth Hound. Paroora B, handicap 14 (H. Orbell captain, H. Harper, J. C. Miller, and A. Gui-d) be-at Pareora A, scratch (A. S. Elwolthy captain, P. A. Elworthy, H. Elworth* and L.„ Orbell) by 16 goals to 12. Tho meeting between these two well-knowft t-eatns evoked more enthrasiaem on the par* of the spectators than any game in tho tournament. From the start the A team attacked, and in the firat chukka piled up 5 gc&h. It looked as though they would rapidly overhaul the handicap, but in - tho succeeding chukkas the soores came more olowly. The last sj>ell but one saw a great improvement in tho olay of the B team, and in tho final chukka'they played at the very top of their form. Splendid exEibitions of driving and returning tho ball from both near-side asid off-side were given by both teams. B responded to the encouragement of the spectators in a remarkable manner, and A were not able to equal their big handicap when time Gounded, with. B four points, to tbo good. _ TO-DAY'S PLAT. The final of the Rhodes Cup tournament will bo- played this morning, commencing at 10.30, when Amuri (handicap 11) will meet Pareora B (handicap 14).
