[ An Oamaru telegram announces tlio ( death of Mr David Patterson, a. wellknowu citizen, at the ago of 85 years. ! Since I&J3 till a few years ago he wai manager of the Oamaru woollen mills. He built up tho local woollen mills from a small concern to u very prosperous; and extensive business. Tho death has occurred at Wanganui, of 31 r Thos. I'Yancis Kioly, after a lon a illness. The late .Mr Kiely was a native of Christchurch, and, going to the north commenced business at Patea as a watchmaker and jeweller. He also took a keen interest in public matters, a member of tho Borough Council and Hosuitd Board, and captain ot the Fire Brigade for tome years. Later ho entered business at Ohokiine, whero he, was for somo time chairman of tho To,vn Board, and, at a still later period, he was elected Mayor of tho town.
