NORTH CANTERBURY BRANCH. The second annual meeting of the North Canterbury branch of the Returned Soldiers Association was held in the Oddfellows Hall, Kangiora, last night. The president, Dr. L. B. Burnett, presiding. The balance-sheet showed receipts £35 138 3d, and expenditure £2O 15s 3d leaving a credit balance of £l4 17s 6d. The balancesheet was adopted. Two resignations were received and accepted A circular wa3 received from the general ' secretary of the N.Z.K.S.A., pointing outhat the Department of Internal Affairs Jiad ; formed a separate adjunct called the War Graves Division, and requesting that a per- ; iodical inspection of war graves in the cemeteries of the district be made, and a report sent to headquarters concerning the state of the graves. . . ! It was resolved that the president and secretary make an inspection and report on the state of the different cemeteries. i Tho secretary of the Canterbury brancfl of the N.Z.R.S.A. wrote advising tho local Association that he had forwa'rded 1000 small packets of poppies and 20 large ones tor sale on Poppy Day, April 24th. ; It was resolved to leave the matter of the salo of the poppies in the hands-of the Mayor or Rangiora and Mr J Horrell, representing the Association. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President: Dr. L. B. Burnett; vice-presi-dents: Messrs J. Horrell and J. McLeod; lion, secretary and treasurer: Mr T. W. Herron; committee: Messrs W. Gardiner, W. Smith, W. Butters, J.. Marshall, A. Breach, J. A. Thompson, and C. E. Bell; \ auditor: Mr C. I. Jennings. \ 1 It was decided to hold a united memorial ; service on Anzac Day in Victoria Park, and, if wet, in the Drill Hall. i Votes of thanks were passed to all past officer*. At the close of the meeting refreshments were provided, and a social hour was spent, when several toasts were honoured, interspersed, with vocal items by Messrs D. Sutherland, D. W. L. Mehrtens, J. Horrell, J. C. Thompson, and a violin solo by Mr A. I Breach.
