ANGLO-PERSIAN OIL COMPANY.

According to cable messages from the Persian -Gulf thcr-i is a serious strike among the employees of the Anglo-Per-sian Oil Company at Abaden. About 40C0 Indians, Antbj and Persians are affected. They refused to ivork, and demanded enhanced pay as, a preliminary to a discussion ofthei." other grievances. The company gavo an 80 per cent, increase last year, and consequently refused the new demand and issued a notice? stating that all those who refused to resume work would be considered to have broken the agreement and would be dismissed. Two thousand refused, and are now being repatriated to India. The remainder have returned to work.
The trouble appears to -have originated among the feikhs, who coerced the others to join the moVstfient. The Political Resident in the Persian Gulf with several high officios visited Abaden to make enquiries They found that the strikers' allegations were not substantiated and that the wage scale was liberal.
