TARIFF COMMISSION.
■ ■ 9 MANUPACTOEIES VISITED. The Tariff Commission took further evidence in this city yesterday morning. In the afternoon the members of the Commission, under the guidance of Mr W. J. Jenkin (president) and Mr Denys Hoare (secretary) of the Canterbury Industrial Association visited several manufactories in the city. The biscuit, oonfectionery, and cocoa works of Messrs Aubebrook and Company were first visited, and all the processes of manufacture were inspected, the members of the Commission spending over an hour in being shown over the extensive factory by Mn R. E. McDougall. In turn, the works of the Cyclone Fence and Gate Company, the Textile Bag and Sack Company, J. Gadsden and hesian bag manufacturer). and Morrison and Morrison (printers ink manufacturers) were visited. This afternoon the members of tho Commission will visit engineering foundries and agricultural implement manufactories in the city; and tomorrow they will visit the factories of the Kai&poi Woollen Company in town, and at Kaiapoi.
In accordance with tho resolution passed at the last quarterly meeting of members of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, a special meeting of the council was held on Monday to consider the reports from sectional committees on the question of revision of the-Customs tariff. After discussion, the following resolution was carried: "That this Council recommends the Chamber to refrain from taking any part in tariff controversy."
