SINN FEIN OUTRAGE.

Sinn Feiners near Monaghan entered the residence of Kitty Carroll, aged 30, who was the sole support of her mother and delicate brother, took her to a lane a mile away, and shot her dead. Her body was found labelled: ''Spies and informers, beware 1 Tried ana, convicted.—l.R.A."
A FATAL MISTAKE. LONDON. April 18. Mistaking each other for Sinn Fernera, two parties of soldiers in mufti engaged in a revolver duel in a hotel at Castleconnell. Beforo they realised their error the landlord and two soldiers were shot dead, and a number or others were seriously wounded. _ Extraordinary" scenes were witnessed at Bollina. Following on the wounding of two constables an armed party entered the township and commenced shooting indiscriminately and bombing houses and business places.
ATTITUDE OF VATICAN. (Received April 19th, 5.6 p.m.) LONDON, April 18. _ Archbishop Mannix has arrived in London. ' Interviewed by a prominent London Sinn Fein leader regarding the alleged statement by Cardinal Bougherty, of Philadelphia, to the effect that Archbishop Mannix while at Rome advocated a settlement between Ireland and England on terms more moderate than tihosa of the Irish Republicans, Archbishop Mannix said he was confident that Cardinal Dougherty did not make the statement, which was pure invention, and probably clumsy English propaganda. " . "I cannot say wfliat the attitude of the Vatican on the Irish question is.'' he declared, "but the English politicians who' base their hopes of crushing Ireland upon the Vatican are doomed to disappointment. The Vatican will not take, sides against tihe declared will of the _ Irish people. The policy of Dominion Home Rule has never been offered on England's side or accepted on Ireland's." Archbishop Mannix expects to sail for Australia in the middle of May.
