CHRISTCHURCH HUNT CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Christchurch Hunt Club wa» held last week, the Master (Mr D. "W. Westenra) presiding over a" large.' attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Sir R. Heaton Rhode?, Mr H.' A. Knight, and Mr Murchison. The Master reviewed the prospects for the coming season. The pack would be strengthened this year by the entry of live and a half couple of puppies. The majority had been walked by members of the hunt. He again offered a cup for the best couple of puppies walked during the coming season by a member of the hunt, the cup to be competed for at the annual show of the Christchurch Kennel Club. Last season had been a most successful one, the pack having killed fifteen and a half brace of hares. The thanks of the club were due to those farmers who had been so kind as to let the hunt cross their land. The life of the'sport depended on these farmers, and they had shown themselves unselfish sportsmen right through. Farmers and members of the hunt alike had suffered a great loss this >3eason in the death of Mr Gough, of Holmby. Mr Gough was one of the earliest supporters of hunting in Canterbury, and the meets at his hpuse were always red-letter days. Mr Westenra then moved, and Mr J. Grigs seconded, a vote of thanks to Mrs Montgomery for her work as honorary secretary to the club. The motion was carried.

Mr J. W. Woodhouse in moving a vote of thanks to the Master, said that for many years Mr Westenra had taken on the mastership, and by hard work and enthusiasm had done'a great deal towards holding the hunt together and making it the strong, keen club it had now become. Members perhaps hardly realised the amount of time Mr Westenra had given up to the interests of the Hunt. He felt sure that he was speaking on behalf of the whole club in moving this vote of thanks. Mr G. seconded the motion, which was carried.

The following officers were elected: President, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; vicepresidents, Messrs J. C. N. Grigg and J. D. Hall; master, Mr D. W. Westenra; deputy-master, Mr J. H. Grigg; committee. Messrs D. W. Westenra, J. C. N. Grigg, H. A. Knight, J. W. Woodhouse, W. Deans, J. H. Grig)?, J. H. Selby, B. Neave, G. Grigg;, R. M. D. Johnson, A. N. Grigg, R. Ward-Smith, B. C. Rutherford, Mesdames Westenra, Woodhouse, and Montgomery, Mis.? Teschemaker, arid Miss M. Teschemaker. '
