RIFLE SHOOTING.

MILITARY MEETING. The annual Prize Firing Meeting of the Group IX. (Canterbury) Military District, was held on the Redcliffs rifle rang© on Saturday, under ideal conditions. The entries for .the various events were well up to those of former years, there .being 86 Territorials and Cadets, and 26 members of rifle olube. Two separate prize-lasts were drawn up, one for the Territorials and Cadets, and the other for members of rifle clubs. The shooting throughout the day was of a varied charafter. The shorter ranges were fired in the nioming, when there was a light southerly wind, and some, excellent scores resulted. S.-Sergt-Major Brant put up an excellent performance. He scored the possible at 100 yardSj registered the highest score at 206 and 500 yards, and was only 3 off the possible in snap-snooting in Match. Two. In the afternoon the wind changed to easterly, and became very uncertain, with the result that the scores were not up to the average, many of the marksmen being quite astray, whilo the challenges were numerous. The shooting was carried out under Service conditions, and the meeting will be concluded at the King Edward Barracks on Saturday next, when the matches tor Cadets under seventeen years of age will be held. Lieut.Colonel F. B. Cisswell, V.D., was chief range officer, and at the conclusion of the firing he presented the trophy to Christ College Cadets, the winners of the Teams Match.
