General Booth, on landing ' to-night from tho Moeraki, was greeted by a large crowd of Salvation Army' officers and tho general public and was given a very gratifying reception. Several bands played selections as the ship came along. l ; ill 3 the wharf. Tho General said ho was looking forward to a great time- in New Zealand. Ha congratulated the Army on the work done in the past, and said lie believed it would do greater thinjrs in the future. Ho drove off amidst the cheers of the crowd. THE CIIBISiCHUUCH VISIT. 9 General B ram well Booth, of the Salvation Army, is expected to arrive from the North to-morrow morning. Ho will be accorded a special reception at 7.45 a.m. at tho railway station, tho civic reception having been cance'lod. Tho General will address meetings in the Salvation Army Citadel, Victoria square, at 7 p.m. to-morrow and also at 10.30 a.m... 2.45 p.m., and 7 p.m. on Friday. T ; io General, who is the eldest son of the founder ef the Solvation Army, was born at Halifax, England. on March Bth. ISSG. After completing his eclucntinu ho became an officer of the Salvation Ariav- in 1874. He wf>i appointed as chief of tho stair in 1880. and held this jyosit.ion unMI th« death ef the founder in 1312.
