Messrs A. Peverill and C. H. Opie havo been nominated for re-electicn to the Canterbury Education Board. Mr W. F. Tracy was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court yesterday by Mr Justice Herdman, on tho motion of Mr A. T. Donnelly. Mr L. G. Jack, recently a teacher under the Ota go Education Board, and Mr J. D. Ben-butt, late of Nelson College, have been appointed resident as-sident-masters at St. Andrew's College, Christchurch. Mr Tankard lins been placed in charge of the gymnastic training of the college. Mr Harley Thomas, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company's service, who lias been spending about nine months' furlough in Christchurch, leaves to-night for Australia, oil his way to resume duty in the East. Mr Thomas will bo stationed at Batavia, in Java. Lieutenant-Colonel A. B. Charters, C.M.G., D.5.0., was a-passenger by the express from Duncdin last night, and went on to Wellington by the ferry steamer. Colonel Charters visited Dunedin to attend the consecration and depositing: of the King's Colours of the Ist. Battalion Otago Regiment, N.Z.E.F. of which lie was commanding officer. Tho cercmony took place at the First Church last Sunday. Mr J. A. Frostirk mentioned at last night's meeting of tho executive of the Industrial Association, that at the approaching annual meeting 'of the Association he will complcto thirty-five years' service on the executive. In announcing that he would not seek reelection, Mr Frostir-k said that his interest in the Association would not be lessened, and he would be willing to assist it at all times. An interested visitor at the meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board last night was Mr A. L. Parsons, an original member of the Christchurch- F're Board, and a former chairman. Mr Parsons has !>cen residing in Perth, West Australia, for somo years, and is a member of the Stato Fire Board. Ho is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mr Parsons received a hearty welcome from tho chairman and members of tho Board, and in replv he gave a statement relating to Fire Board operations in West Australia. An Invcrcargill telegram states that Mr A. W. Rodders, chairman of the Electric Power' Board, was waited upon by a _ representative deputation of commercial men and others, and presented with an address and a draft for £2000 ; in recognition of his services to the province as chairman of the Southland Loaeue and Electrification Committee, which carried out the preliminary work in connexion with the provincial electrical scheme. The Mayor, who acted as spokesman, and made the presentation. referred in high terms to Mr "Rodgers's patriotic and unselfish efforts to advance the interests of the province, which had been crowned with such splendid success.
