« BIG DECEEASE IN WELLINGTON. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) "WELLINGTON, Juno 7. "I regard the position as very satisfactory. Apparently we have readied tho end of'the wave," remarked the District Health Officer (Dr. Faris) today in reviewing tho influenza statistic? for Wellington district. Dr. Faris added that it looked as if the district was going to have a quiescent period now, although the possibility of further mild waves of influenza during the winter should not be overlooked. For the week elided noon to-day only 269 cases were notified, a decrease of 355 cases compared with the figures for the previous week, and a decrease of 880 cases on the total recorded two weeks ago. Nelson, with an increase of four cases, was the only district in which a fallingoff was not disclosed. Of Lhe latest notifications, fifteen ' wero listed as pneumonic. In the previous week there were twenty-one cases in this category. The number of influenza .notifications in tho Canterbury Health District yesterday was 44. Of these, 33 were in North Canterbury, Christchurch. having 27 mild cases, and one pneumonic, Sefton one mild and one pneumonic, Leeston 2 mild, and Neiv Brighton, Rangiora, Lyttelton, and Clarkville one mild case each. One mild ease was reported from South Canterbury, and seven from Inangalma. The bi-weekly bulletin issued at noon yesterday, showed a total of 82 notifications, of which 7 were from Inangahua, G8 mild and 2 pneumonic from North Canterbury, and 5 from South Canterbury.
