Music was supplied by Mr A. jVrneson, extras being nlayed by Mi-ses L. Andrews and I. Barbour. OBITUARY. Flags on building's and shipping in Lyttclton yesterday we to fly in.? Nt Half-most on account, of tho death of Mr John Daniel Miller, who died at p. private hospital in Christchurch tho previous day, following' an operation. The late Mr Miller was born at Greyniouth in 1871, and arrived in Lyttclton with hia parents when four years old. He was cducn-ted at tho Borough School, and on leaving worked with his father, the late Mr Malcolm Miller, shipwright, and later for hia brother. Mr M. J. Milicr, 6ubse<juently becoming head of tho firm upon Mr M. .T. Miller's retirement eight years ago. One or two incidents in Mr Miller's career as a shipwright are worthy of note, such as the raising of the schooner Aniv Turner, which wa3 sunk. at the wharf while on fire, and also the salving of tho hulk Blackw&ll, which foundered at the wharf with ISOO tons of coal on board. This last feat was performed after three other contractors had tried and. failed. Mr Miller was of a rotirinij disposition. and took no part in local affairs. He was 9' mom hot' of the Presbyterian. Church, and also of tho local howling- club and regatta club. He was in tttendnnco at his business until two days before his .death. Tho funeral, which took place yesterday, was largely attended. The service was conducted by tho Rev. W. T. Todd, of St. John's Presbyterian Church. Floral tributes were sent by the following:—Lyttelton Regatta Club, Lyttelton .Bowling Club, deceased's emulovees, Diamond Harbour Golf Club, Adams, Ltd., residents -and friends of Diamond harbour, directors of Forbes, Ltd., employees of Forbes, Ltd., Mr M.
