Ho waa a groat statesman, patriot, and jurist. Colonel L. S. Amery (Under-Secre-tary for tho Colonics) alluded to Sir Edmund Barton's great mental power, patriotism, and statesmanship. The sad loss of two leaders of men liko Sir Edmund Barton and Mr Alfred l>e_ikin was n heavy blow -to Australia. Roforring to Sir Charles Wado and Sir Thomas Robinson, lie said Ills personal experience of tho records of tno Colonial Office showed that l>oth had done yeoman servico for thoir Stato and for tho Commonwealth. Sir Thomas Itobinson, referring to tho varied duties of Agents-General, said that if ho were credited with 2 2-sth por cent, on the indent work ho had done during the year it would show a substantial balance. Immigration, and advertising work was thrown in gratis. l Sir Charles Wado commented on the demand for unification. Tho AgentsGeneral always endeavoured to speak with ono voico and act in harmony, whilo pushing tho rights of their own States.
