MARINE ENGINEERS' STRIKE
N.Z. TRADERS TO RUN

Lamb nnd Company, Ltd., hare mado arrangements with the engineers working their fleet of steamers engaged in the Sydney-New Zealand timber trade, by which these vessels will remain in commission. [Messrs Robert S. Lamb and Co., Ltd., of Sydney, control the following steamers, which are employed in the intercolonial coal and trade: —Ihumata 1158 tons, Inga 946 tons, and Joan Craig 1143 tons.] EASTERN TRADE AFFECTED. SYDNEY, January 8. Tho engineers of the steamer Eastern, due to sail for Hong Kong, havo joined the strikers. STRIKES IN SOUTH AFRICA. AN UNWANTED GERMAN. (Renter 1 # Telegrams.) (Received January 9th, 1.15 a.m.) CAPETO"WN, January 8. In connexion with the official decision that tho German employed at tho Bimmordeep Mine at Johannesburg, with whom the British miners refused to work, was under an agreement, and entitled to remain, the Strike Committee is dissatisfied, and has issuod a statement that many employees havo decided to leave tho mine in preference to working with the German. Tho municipal employees at Durban struck owing to the dismissal of tho assistant town clerk. Tho tramway and telephono services are suspended.
