Andrews, E. J. Hatherley, and F. Otley were the' a&ses-: isors'for the' employees,' and Messrs H. Harris; D.' Sutherland, and C. Eenn for "the employees.' . , Mr H. Broadheud,' secretary of the; Employers' • Association,;, attended as • agent for the employers. . Mr ilehn, for the Union,' stated. thg,t the .coist of living had • greatly increased,. and' that plastertirs paid higher 'wages /in the North • Island", in Christchutfeh.Unless higher . wages , were-' paid here, : local Skilled ■workers'would";be drifting" to..''the Nofth. I&. latid and; other' centres'. "Ths Union wa4?ijdt asking for'anythirig of/a revolutionary.'char-' acter, but the various 'claims ..made Woro very! reasonable. .' . The Commissioner suggested "an allowance of 3s 4d per day 'or per week extra for men. on country work. , The employers' assessors offered a flat rate of journeymen's wages of la. 7Jd .per ; hour, with a boni'u of 2d per .hour, as from . April !st next, country workers to receive 3s- 4d. per hour, with apprentices', wages 'as ..asked' for by the Union. /; ." This offer was agreed to, and' it' was further agreed that in other respects the -award as at present should continue. The new agreement will remain in force for' two:3fe?urs. .. ■ . .
