It resulted in a win for Cah--8 terbury by seven wickets. When play ceased on the piovioua day, Canterbury had made 129 for two wickets in ' their second innings, which • left them 170 runs to get to win the match, and recover the Shield, Wellington's grand total being <86. Jones and Patrick, the not out men, had made 67 and 21 respectively. Jones increased his scoro to 83, and was then bowled by Hiddlestone. Thomas joined Patrick, and 1 these two set out to run up the necessary ecore. This they succeeded in doing, by consistently good batting, Patrick making 87 not out, and Thomas 72 not out. 1 Wel'ington's bowling was not strong, and, escept for Hiddlestone and "Marris, the Wellington fielding was poor. ' When tho game had been in progress for s half-an-hour, 100 showed on the. board. Janes here g&vG tv chanc©, but Lanibort couid not reach it. A few minutes later Jones was bowled by Hiddleatone, and three wickets were down for 172. After an hour's play, Canterbury hoisted 200, of which Patrick had made 51. Canterbury now needed 98 to win Patrick sent a high one to the boundary off Hiddlestone, which Baker took but failed to hold. At the hour and a half, Canterbury were 241 on. Shortly, after 1 o'clock Patrick made the. winning hit. Then Thomas scored a boundary, and the game closed, Canterbury haying won by., seven wickets, and recovered tho Shield, bcoroe • WELLINGTON.
