THE STRANDED NEW ZEALANDERS.
Strong exception was taken by Sir Jamas Xllen, Acting-Prime Minister, in an interview he accorded- a "Press' 1 representative on Saturday, to a statement made in Auckland by ono of tho Port Lvttelton's passengers, that the New Zealand Government's agent in Sydney had been unablo to advance money to Now Zealanders for cabling to the Dominion for funds. "That state, ment is inaccurate," Sir James Allen. "Mr Blow (the New Zealand Government's agont in Svdney) cabled to mo about theso stranded New Zealanders, and he had instructions from me that if any were in real want he was to help them, but to protect the New Zealand Government. Wo could not bo imposed upon. We have been doing all that we could not only to got the New Zealanders back, but piompt action was taken by myself to secure passages for them on the Durham and Port Lyttelton, and I did all that si human boin~ possibly could do to try to get tho Australians stranded herr over to Australia." j
