' The death is announcod of Sir Donald Mackenzie "Wallace. Sir Donald Mackenzio , Wallace, K.0.V.0.. K.C.1.E., was bora in November, 1841, and educated at private schools and tho Universities of Glasgow, ! Edinburgh, Berlin, and Heidelberg, ana I the Ecole do Droit, Paris. He reßided I and travelled in various foreign countries, chiefly in Franco, Germany, Rutsift, and Turkey, from 1863 to 1884. He was Private Secretary to the Marquess or Dufferin and the Marquess of downe as Viceroys of India, from I«S4 to 1889, and was attached to the Cssarowitch as political officer during his tour in India and Ceylon, 1890-189}.. Ho was director of the Foreign Departnient of "The Times" from 1891 to 1899, and Assistant-Private Secretary to H.11.H. the Duke of Cornwall and York during his colonial tour in 1001. He was extra groom-in-waiting to King Edward VII. in 1909, and to King Georgo V. in 1910. and was attached to the Emperor or liuesia during his visit to England in 1909'. He was a member of the Institut d© Droit International, and an Officer de I'lnstruction Publiquo of France. Ho edited the 10th edition Encyclopaedia Britannica publications, Russia 1877. Egypt, and the Egyptian Question 1883, the Web of Empire 1902; now editions of Russia rearranged and brought up to date, 1905 and 1912. 'MR ALEX? SCOTT. On Saturday evening word was received in Christchurch of the death of Mr Alex. Scott, in Dunedin. Mr Scott had for the last twelve months occupied tho position of inspector for the Rational Mortgage and Ajgency Co. of New Zealand. Ltd. Prior to that ho was for many years one of the most prominent and most highly esteemed auctioneers in South Canterbury. He was a resident of Timaru. Mr Wallace Good, a resident of Auckland for the past 58 years, died last w«ek at his residence, Boston road. Mount Eden, apoj 78. He came to New Zealand with his fathor and five brothera in the ship Caducace in October, 1360.
