—— MOUNT HERBERT. The monthly meeting of the Council wae held in tho Council Chambers. Purau. Present- Messrs Orton Bradley (chairman), A. R. Flemin" J. E- Fleming, W. H. Firmston, Q. C. Manson, F. E. H. Gardiner, and J. D. Votes of sympathy wero passed to Mr J. E. Fleming whose eon, Trooper Eric Fleming, recently'died in England; MrL. M. Wilson, Port Levy, whose daughter died during the epidemic; Mr S. M. Blatchford, whose mother (an old Teddington resident) paaeed away at an advanced age; and to Mr George Arm- j strong, Akaroa, whose eon wae recently killed in action in Fiance. | The retiring chairman, Mr 0. Bradley, thanked councillors for the kindness they had extended, to him. during the past .six.year 3, and expressed a wish to be relieved of the position. Ho gave a very long- and. interesting resume of the two Road Boards before they became united into a county, -tracing their doings for nearly fifty years. M'r J. E. Fleming was elected chairman for the ensuing yeas. Tho Council thanked Mr F. I\. TI. Gardiner for his kindness in supplying the members with lunch during the past year. The resignation of Mr I>. M. Wilson, Port Levy, was received and accepted with Tegret, he having left the district. Th<> clerk was instructed to write and thank him for his past services, which the Council much appreciated, and take the necessary Bteps to fill the vacancy. The Public Works Department wrote regarding roads on the new settlement, Port Levy. Tho clerk was instructed to reply that the Council would take over the roads if formed twelve feet wide, and if culverts and bridges were constructed where required. Tho Rangitikei County Council wrote regarding tho carrying out of works subsidised by tho Government. The Council expressed "sympathy .with the Rangitikei Council's position, but having no work subsidised by the Government was unable to express an opinion therein. . Tho Hastings and Napier Borough Councils wrote . regarding tlie strengthening of the financial position of the Public Health Department. Tho clerk was instructed to reply that as the Government was making a move in that direction, it would be better to wait their suggestions. ■ The Alexandra Borough Council wrote urging that the Government-should take over the care of all tuberculosis patients. The Council approved of the suggestion. The Farmers' Union wrote regarding fingerposts at the junctions of main rogds for the* guidance of tie travelling public. The clerk was instructed to obtain and erect additional posts whore required. • The Akaroa County Clerk forwarded a reaumo of work done in reference to the electrical reticulation of Banks Peninsula.
