COURT-MARTIAL.
OFFENDING- RESERVISTS. At tho King' Ed-ward Barracks yesterdar, a court-martial was hold on. two reservists, George Deane and "H. E. Granger, charged with breaches of military law. The Court comprised Major A. "E. I.oaiih • (president), Captain F. P. Osmond Smith and Lieutenant D. T. Wood. Captain H. G. Livingstone was prosocutor" and Lieutenant S. J. Sampson waiting officer. . ' Nine members o£ the public attended tho proceedings, six of whom were women. George Deane, wlio said lie had no objjc-" tion to tho personnel of the Court, pleaded guilty to'a charge of being' abeent, without leave, and said ho had - no defence of any kind to maiej ' Tho facts were that accused failed to i<>spond to the notice to parade at Ashburton on April 29th, 1913. Ho was arrested in December, 191 S. Accused, in a statement, said the -reason ho did not parade was..that he was ill at the time, and not fit to parade, as ho was suffering from a disease. At this stage the Court was cleaned to coneider tho eentence, and resumed to deaL with the case of Herbert Edward Granger, who said he had no objection to the personnel of the Court. The charge against the accused was that at Timaru( in August, 1917, he failed to.parade for medical examination when ordered to do 80. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge, and eaJd he had no statement to make. The sentence of the Court wiil be announced to-day.
