i ■ • i J j SOUTH MARLBOROUGH LEAGUE. • * The monthly mostinp of the South Marlborough Eoads and Bridges League was held in Kaikourn on Saturday, Mr A. J. Murraybeing iD tho chair. A vote of sympathy True passed to Mr Milson in his bereavement. In reply to a communication from the League, tho Awatera County Council advised -thai tho Government had voted £200 . towards the work required at tho northern j approach to the Clarence bridge, and that | tho work had been started. Tho Minister of Public "Works notified, in ' response to the League's communication re- • lativ© to providing a temporary bridge over j tho C.anv river whilst the permanent bridge ' was being constructed, that the work of reconstruction of the present bridge would be commenced in a few days. A motion was .moved expressing the League'n hearty appreciation of tho Mir.U- ---; tor's attention io the matter, but reapectj fully proteaing against tli-J bridge twin? re- | constructed on. the present site, aa against ' tho safer site lower down the stream. I It wa3 moved that the attention r.f the i Minister be drawn- to the fact that no voie | had been provided for a lijht traffic bridgo ; over Cribb creek. There- b>\i?i r ; a Government settlement nearby, ■ also a school, and aa it was on the mail rout<\ it was important that this work should be provided for. A resolution was passed that "the Minister !'/■> heartily thanked for the provision mtdo in the Estimates for work between tho railheads, and expressing a hope that the future r.ceds of the district would be given attention. ! ; i
