Mr O'Donel Davis, who is at .present choirmaster and organist at St. Luke s . Church, has been appointed tp a similar position at Christ's College, where he is a - member of the teaching staff. Mr W H. Skinner, Commissioner of Crown Lands, left for Wellington last night, on Departmental business, and goes on to Taranaki. He will be absent from town for about'ft fortnight. Mr H. E. E. White. Montreal street, 'has received advice- that -his son, Sergeant A, Ernest White, has been '■ * gaaetted 'second-lieutenant after four months' training at St. John's College,' Cambridge. Mr H. G. B. Galbraith, of the Supreme Court staff, has been transferred to the Magistrate's Court, Greymouth. He leaves to take up nis new position on Tuesday.

At the meeting of the committee of the Musical Society, held on Monday, deep regret was expressed at the death of Mr G. W. Horsley, an active member of the .Society for 15 years,'and till lately a member of the committee. On the motion of the chairman, Mr H. A. Adley, a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the deceased gentleman was passed. On Tuesday evening, beforo the' weekly praotice commenced, Dr. Brudahaw spoke feelingly on the same subject. He referred to the late Mr .Horsley not only as a loyal and enthusiastic member and friend of the Society, but as a man of considerable musical ability and of wide and strong sympathies.
