EX-MAYOR OF NEW YORK.

NEW YOUK, Jul? 6. ' •V despatch received her© states that Major J. P. Mitcbcl. ex-Mayor of New York, was killed at Lake Charles. Ho fell while flying in a Scott machine.
Mr John P. Mitcliel was elected Mayor of New "iork in 1914, and held office until .November last, when, in a triangular contest, ho was defeated by i ho Tammany candidate, Judgo Hylan.
MR T. F. McLAUGHL AN. (special to "the press. H t J>UNEDIN, July 9, Mr Thomas Francis McLaughlan, Government tourist agent at Dunedin for the oast two and a half years, died suddenly yesterday from an attack of pneumonia. He was at his office up to Wednesday last. Tho deceased began his connexion with tho Tourist Department in the head office at Wellington. From there he was transferred to Invevcargill. where lie had the arranging of the Milfonl Track excursions, and was most successful in making them a success. From Invercargill he was transferred to Dunedin. Mr McLaughlan leaves a widow and two children.
