HIDGEIiEY LODGE. At tho last meeting of the Ridgelev Lodge Bro. ' R. C. Joughin presided. The election of officers resulted as follows:—N.G., Bto. P. Milne; Y.G., Bro. J. Biggs; treasurer, Bro. L. P. White; secretary, Bro. E. Eldridge; recording secretary, Bro. H. E. Gott; Bro. G. Morrow, who wai down on final leavo, was presented with asafety razor, money belt, and wallet. HORTICULTURAL CLASS. At a meeting of the Horticultural Class, conducted by Mr W. J, Courtier, an interesting address was delivered by the instructor on "Insect 'Pests and their Control." Mr Courtier described the various pests, end their life history, and showed specimens of the various peats. Tho method of control and the value of different sprays fox summer and winter were explained. It was decided to have a field day for practical demonstra--tion of fruit tree pruning at 300 Stanmore road, Richmond, on Saturday next. LOYAL ALDINGTON LODGE. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Addington Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., N.G. Bro. R. Simes presided. Sick pay amounting to £6 10a was passed for payment. A sub-com-mittee, consisting of Bros. W. Gahagan, J. A. Clarke, C. H. Winny, and A. L. Gout lay, was set up to oonsider the question of mc'AU cnl pence. A letter "was received from the Addington Burgesses' Association, 'enclosing a donation to the hall-keeper in recognition of services rendered. At tho close of the meeting the ladies were entortaind at progressive euchre. Miaa Harris sang several eongs. LECTURE ON THE WAR. On Monuay evening tho Rev. W. Walker, a returned ciiupiain, gave a lecture iu tho Joy* land Picture Ihealre, Is'ew .Brighton, his subjeot being "With tfle .Now Zealand Forces in .Flanders." The Mayor (Mr If. Kibblewhite) and there was an excellent attendance. The lecturer commenced by giving Jus first impressions üboo reaching ihC batt!<yfiont, and concluded with his oxperioncea at Messwos. There, was exhibited a collection of souvenirs from tho war, inoiud-ing-gas masks, bombs, grenades, and shrapnel. The net proceeds were in aid of tho New Brighton Methodist Church Debt Ex* tinction. Fund. SUMNER SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Sumner School Committal met la«t night, Mr D. Lumeden presiding. Correspondence was received from the Board of Education stating that plans we r© being prepared for tho proposed additions, Tho Board also wrote enclosing general instructions &a to the keeping of accounts. The Works Com. mittco waa instructed to report upon several suggestions for the improvement of the playground. The Board wrote reoommending the appointment of Miss O. Andrews as pssiStant mistress. The appointment waa confirmed. Mr McKenzie notified that he was leaving tho district, and tendered his resignation aa a member of tho committee. The resignation was accepted, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr McKenzie for hia serrjepe. The headmastor reported that the roll taumbet w«3 263, and the highest attendance 365.
