Business in the grain and produce market is stil] very quiet. There are not many potatoes offering, and deliveries havo slackened off since the biivl weather set in. There is no change in prices. The bringing down of 60 many thousands of sheep by train from the enow affected districts is expected to harden the local chaff market. Fodder generally will be in good demand, as on the plains, whero the snow fell to any depth, stock havo to bo fed on stack fodder at present. The following are the prices paid to farmers at country stations, freo of commission, sacks extra, escest where otherwise stated: — Milling wheat, according to Government price, South Island, June Ss lljd, July 6s, August 6s o£d, f.o.b, North Island, 4d additional. Oats—Seed Algerians 4s 2d to 4s Gd, feed 4s to 4s 3d; milling Gartons 4s 4d to 4s 6d, feed 4s Id to 4s 2d; eeed Duns 4a 6d to ss, lighter 4a upwards; good quality Danish to 4a 6d.

There was a total yarding of 124S fat sheep and iambs at the Ashburton yards yesterday, including SB2 ewes, <87 we there, and 379 lambs. There was a large attendance, and a keen demand for anything of prime quality, and only a few Uncs were passed in. Tho top figuro reached was 42s M for a line of 17 wetheis, Gold on behalf of Mr W. Baxter, Scaview, while a line of 60, sold on account of Mr T. McDowell, Wakanui, brought 87s. A line of 11 from the Experimental Farm brought 36s 3d. Mr Ruddick got 36s 3d for a line of 25 and 33s Id lor another line of 28. A lino of 69 sold on behalf of a client brought 37a, and a line of 23 j sent in by Mr J. llegg, of "Wakanui, was passed in at 37s 6d. The top price for ewes was 32s Od, for 17 sold on accuunt of Mr W. Jamicson, Dromore, and tho same owner got 31s for another line of 18, whila Mr \V. Prebble, of Lyndhuist, got 80s led for a lino of 15. Tho highest price paid for iambs was 32s 6d for 18, sold ou account of Mr John O'Grady, Winchmore, and Mr Bebbington, of Lauriston, got 32s 4d for a nice, oven lino of 113. Mr R. Baxter, Seaview, obtained 31a 6d for 14; Mr W. Jamieson, Dromore, 31s 2d for a Ijne of 12; and Mr Bonifant, Wakanui, 30s 10d for a line of 8. Lambs: 25 295, 14 31s 6d, 8 30s lOd, 12 31s 2d. -18 32s 6d, 6 50s 3d, 33 28s 3d, 124 25s 9d, 113 32s 4d. The yarding of store sheep totalled 2055, and included 659 hoggets, -107 wethers, the balance being owes, empty and in lamb. Thero was a fairly good demand, and of tho yarding 485 only were paseed at auction. Tho feature of the market was a fino line of twotooth owes, tho property of Mr Morrow, Doric, which made from 37s Id to 37s 9d. The principal sales were:—lso eound-mouth lialfbrrJ ewes in lamb 'lit. Cattle—There was a yarding of 16 head of cattle, tho primest of the lot being a couple of bullocks sent in by Mr Vincent Wri'ht'of Lagmhor, and they readily realised £17 a head. Two others sold .011 account of the same owner brought £15 a bead. Tho next highest price wns £14 2« 6d, for a fat cow, sold on behalf of Mr W. Jameson, of Dromore. Other fat cows brought £13 7s 6d, £10 ss, £10 10a. Vealers realised £4 10s and £5 6s. Cows springing to profit were sold at £12, and a heifer in full profit brought £9.
