Speaking at a Chamber of Commerce dinner at Hamilton, Mr Hammond, president of tho Farmers' Union, said as a practical farmer he considered that the soldier settlers at Tomiro were going to have a bad time this year. 'Ihose who sent the men there should have known better. The sottlers could not buy oovrs until late in the season, and they would, therefore, have a short season. The roads were in a very bad. state, and the country was almost without feed, and thero was danger of the country being eaten out by rabbits. Tho Union should urge the Government to do its duty by returned soldiers 6ettling on th© land.
