Maxwell moved:—"That' the League write to the Government urging that New Zi-aland eailoie and their dependants receive the same treatment as the Dominion a soldiers; and that otlier branches oi the League' be asked to co-operate." Mx H. J. Marriner seconded the motion, which was agreed to. ' The chairman brought before the meeting a . circular from the ■Mayor of Auckland regarding the pioposed memorial to the late Lieut.Commauder W. E. Sanders, V.C., D.5.0., and tho establishment of a scholarship for young New Zealandcrs who ,• dosire to enter . the Royal Navy or the mercantile marine. Tho chairman described the deed ■ performed* by the late LieuL-Commander Sanders, and said that before he joined, the Navy Lieut.-Com- . mander Sanders was an officer in one of the Union Company's steamers, and at the time he performed the deed which gained for him the V.C. he was-in command etf a trawler. Auckland was quite able to provide tho sum required, but an opportunity was given the whole of New Zealand to participate in honouring Lieu. t.-Comni under Sanders fi memory. The president (Mr A. Boyle) had expressed the opinion that if anything were done locally it should be dime by the; Navy League, and that, .at least, a contribution of £500 should be made. It was decided to refer the matter to the Gift Day sub-committee, with a recommendation to give effect to th© appeal of the Mayor of Auckland. , The Gift Day sub-committee recommended that an appeal be made by the League for I the men in the Royal Navy and Air Services land their dependants; tb<at gifts be appealed I for by ciroular and by canvassing; that the 1 appeal for gifts close on November Ist, and that tho annual collection and salo of badges take place on November Ist;' that the most suitable gifts be disposed of by art union; that the balance be cataloged and sold by auction in Show Week itnd that application, be made for the use of King Edward Barracks for the auction. The report was adopted.
