SEDITIOUS STRIKE CHARGES.
♦ MEN FINED AT GISBORNE. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) GISBORNE, July 2. A prosecution under..the War Regulations Act for an alleged seditious strike took place at the Magistrate's Court before Mr Barton, S.M., as the outcome of a stoppage of work at the Gisborne Sheepfarmers' "Works, on February 28th last. Hie men charged were George Pollard, David Irwin, Herbert Stanley Davis, Charles Hays, Walter Birkett, Hector Percy Swan, George Will =, Joseph Thomas Morgan, and R t LewiSj all of whom were describca as freezing works employees. After hearing the evidence, his Worship said that strikes were detrimental things at any time, bnt at the present time, when a war was in progress, it was the dnty of every British subject to render all possible aid in the cause. He Tould take into consideration the fact that the men returned to work the following day, and would impose a penalty of £3 each, in default «eeven days' imprisonment.
