THE COOK ISLANDS. On Monday evening, the J. 5. East* man gave an interesting lantern lecture, in ; the Social Hall pi the Lin-wood Congr«ja- ' tional Church, on "The Cook Islands," , where he has laboured for eomo yean. Tho. pictures of the native' warriors, who have | enlisted in the service of the Empire, were • vigorously applauded by the many yountT people present. At the close of the lecture the fruit and produce from the harvestthanksgiving were disposed of by JJutcli \ auction. AUDINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting .of .the Aldington School Committee, the headmaster's report showed the roll liumbeT to-be 678, and highest attendance 645. All the pupil teach* ers had been successful at the examinations. Two old boys, \V. H. Down and P. "VV. Golding, had been wounded. Miss M. A. Callughan was appointed probationer. It was decided to apply to the Board for several repair* to furniture. The Board's auditor complimented the secretary on the manner in which he had kept the books ot the committee. LINWOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the last meeting of the Itinwood School Committee correspondence was received from the Board of Education dealing with new boundaries, consequent on the school district being j>loced in the urban area. It was decided to hold the matter over till tho annual mooting of householders in April. The headmaster reported that the number of pupils now on tho roll was 705, and tho average atendance (-V55. The recent picnio nt Linwood Park, had" Oeen most bucc«ssful, and votes of thanks were passed to Messrs 1". W. Dunnage, J. Sherris, and .A. Sorrell for 1 valuable assistance. It was decided to grant tho use of a. room to tho Eev. O. Fitzgerald for Sunday school purposes, provided ccrtain arrangements were carried out. Messrs Denton and Carter were appointed delegates to a conference of the Bromley and Woolston School Committee, dealing with the readjustment if boundaries. A bonus of £5 was granted to the caretaker, Mr Fletcher.
