The purchase and delivery of wheat is going on steadily, both milling and fowl wneat being taken, but the strongest demand is for the better quality wheat. • • e Oats are still scarce, and m view of the fact that the Australian market has risen and that there is a prospect of further export from there being prohibited, the local market seems likely to keep firm. Offerings of cats are, however, expected to be _ somewhat larger when the threshing of wheat is completed and the southern crops coeevS on tho market. The potato market is firmer in view of the fact that the crop is not turniijfr out too well so far as condition is "concerned. The price offered is now £3 15s at country stations, and there is pofc a. largo amount, of business doing. . RANGIORA MARKET. There was a good entry of sheep at i the Rangiora yards yesterday, l'ats l totalling 1853 and stores 4069. Com- j petition- was keen for all lines of fats, buyers operating freely. Stores, how-. ever, were a little easier, especially ewes, which showed a drop of about 2s. The range of pricos was: Prime lat I ewes 29s 4d to 345, medium 24s 4d to 2Ss 7d, best fat lambs 30s to 33s 3d, good 26s to 29s lid, extra prime fat wethers 37s lOd. prime 29s lOd to b3s 3d. Cattle. —There iwas an entry of 53 head. Fat cows made £10 to £12 15s, fat heifers £9 to £10, springers £13 15s. calves £3 10s to £5 16s.
Pigs.—lo4 were penned. Heavy baconers made 100s to 117s 6d, light weight 78s to 90s, porkers 51s to C7.s, stores 445, and weaners 14s to 30s. Tn the poultry department roosters made to 7s 3d a couple, hens 3s 3d, pullets 4s 6d, ducks 6s, and gee«e 9s. In the produce yards, chick wheat made 6s 6d a bushel, oats 4s (id. grass seed 4s 6d, wheat meal ltis a sack, oateheaf chaff 4s 6d, straw chaff 2s, potatoes 8s to 10s, apples 2s to 3s a case, and pears 2s. - ASHBURTOX STOCK MARKET. The heavy rain yesterday interfered with the attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashburton yards, but the entry of both fats and stores was again large, the formor aggregating 34.58. The entry included 815 ewes, 274 wethers, and 2395-; Prices
throughout were well up to late rates, ■ and tnoro were very few passings. Tho- * highest price ruling for ewes was 34s ] 3d, wethers 36s lOd, and lambs 31s 9d. Tho following was the range of prices obtained: Ewes 25s to 34s 3d, wethors 31s to 36s lOd, lambs 265-4 d to 31s 9d. There was only a small yarding of cattle-, and these were sold at tho following prices: Two fat cows £10, fat; heifer £10 15s, store cow £8, cow>. springing £10. A fat bullock,was passed at £20 ss.
