HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED
REPORT,
Certain words in the High Commissioner's cable message, dated London, 2nd .March 3 1918, Lave been repeated, with tho result that it is now found necessary to make the following correction: — Meat.—Notwithstanding very limited supply of all descriptions of meat, present supplies meet requirements. Demand i s limited owing to fact that rations are in force. Supplies consist chiefly of .English meat. Patagonian lamb, and Argentine mutton, selling at maximum prices. New Zealand lamb, chilled beef, small supply available. Hemp.—Manila hemp market steady, with moderate demand. Output during two. weeks ended 23rd February 40,000 bales. New Zealand spot market. strong, market quiet, and small business doing for forward shipment.
MOUNT SOMERS STOCK SALE
At the Mount Somcrs yards on Monday the following sales were made: — (55 ewes 22s 7d, 14 at 12s, 141 sound and failing-mouth ewes at 23s Id, 100 sound-mouth lialfbred ewe s at 29s 4d, 140 two-tooth ewes at 33s 6d, 139 six and eight-tooth ewes at 34s 3d, 120 two-tooth wothers at 24s Id, 100 mixed sex lambs at 235, 139 a t 23s 9d, and 257 at 255. '
BUBNSIDE MARKET. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
DUNEDIN, March 6. At Burns id e to-day 235 fat cattle were penned, including a number of very prime bullocks. Prices were hardly equal to last week's rates. Prime bullocks made £18 to £20, extra to £22 15s. medium £16 to £17, best cows and heifers £14 10s to £16, medium £12 10s to £13 10s, others £10 and upwards. Sheep—2olo were penned. Last week's rates maintained for good quality, but medium and inferior were hardly equai to late rates. Best wethers made 40s to 435, extra to 455, medium 33s to 36s 6d, best ewes 37s 6d to 40s, medium 30s to 32s 6d, others 25s and upwards. Lambs— 74S were penned. Freezing buyers were operating, and prices were firm at late rates. Best made 2", s 6a to 30s, extra to 33s 6d, medium 24s to 265, others 20s and upwards. F'fes—A medium yarding realised late rates. There was keen competition.
