NOTES AND NEWS. SHEARERS AND SHED HANDS. SETTLEMENT ARRIVED AT. Proposals for an agreement as to shearers and shed hands' pay and working conditions '\voro debated, at length by the Conciliation Council, presided over by Mr W. H. Hagger, ac Wellington on Thursday. The meeting f:at! horn arranged with a view to the settlement of tho dispute on Dominion lines. Mr C. Gravndler was agejit< lor the Shearers' tJnion and Messrs F. H. Labatt and E. C. Jack appeared for the sheepowners. Tile assessors for tho Union were: Messrs A. •). King, J. Townsend and 15. Eddv; lor the sheepowners: Messrs H. Morrison. W. 0. Sherratt, and H. D. Acland. The following schedule of rates of pay were embodied in the new agreement :— Shearing Pates.—The rates for shearing hy hand and machine, nob less than 22s (>d per 100 and 5s war bonus, with rations.. Hates for shearing lam bs. not less than 22s 6d per 100 and 5s war bonus, with, rations. In eases where shearers find themselves in Lions the above rates to be increased by -Is. per 100. Shed Hands.—Pressers and woolrollers. -12s 6d per "week and 10s war bonus, and when .not engaged by tl:n week, Is 3d per hour and 3d per hour w:ii- bonus. All other shed hands when engaged by tho ■week. £2 per week and 10s bonus, and when not engaged by the week Is 2d per hour and 3d per hour war bonus. Cooks £3 per week and 10s bonus. Cooks' assistants .I*2 per week and 10s war bonus. The conditions of the old award wore embodied in the new agreement. The new agreement comes into force on September l#>t and operates till ruary 26th, 1019. The dispute being a Wellington one, a resolution was passed by the assessors making application to the Court to make the' "Wellington applicable to all other centres.
