A letter waa received from 1 lie Wniparsi County Council, containing a scries of resolutions urging the growing of vegetable on small areas, and wheat and 0a.1.3 on larger ;troii.s, in order to obviate t-o a- grea.t extent a possible food short-age. On tbe motion of Cr. Foster, Geconded by Cr. Webb, tbe resolutions weic approve:!, nnd it v.'afl further resolved to urge the residents of Lvtt-elton to plant- all avail-able land with foodstuffs during tlie ensuing season. Correspondence was received from the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, accepting the Council's fmgge«tion that an olficor of tlie Dominion Library should inspect the records in the Lvttelton Public Library.
The financial statement showed the receipts to have been £JU9I 6s 6d, and the payments (including t-empor-a>y loans) £38-11 Os (id. The liet debit balance (including temporary deposits) a-moiinted to £10,903 T« 9d. Accounts pasee-i for payment totalled £301 Ga Id.

A meeting of the Temuka Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. I'resell*-— The Muyor (Mr A. Prow), and Councillors G. Hancox, G. B. Curtwrighl, "\V. Blytli. T. •Sbwm. T. Tilbrook. and T. Gunnion. The Mayor's statement showed thart tho borough s cre<Lit balance had increased by £224 during l the year, ajad a water-cart and implement gbe-3 had been added to the borough's assets, so that the Council as trustees had practised economy. The secretary of the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board wrote reporting three ca«a of infectious diseases. T.ae secretary of the Temuka Gaa Company wrote regretting the failure of-the gas supply, and intimating that etepe were being takun to Temedy the defect The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs forwarded extracts from the "Gazette"' in regard to the request to observe Anzuc Day on April 23rd instead of April 23th. The ' -"licil resolved to adhere to the original date. we engineer reported that the water supply works were now completed, and a great improvement would re3ult. Some willow trees would have to bo removed to prevent tho intake being blocked with roole. Tho Finance Committee's report showed the general fund credit balance to be £1797 "a Sd, with liabilities £216 Is 3d. The receipts for the month were £6i 18s sd, the rates outstanding were £125 Os Id, and rents £27 1?a 3ld. The various accounts were in credit as follows: —Genera] £405 lUs. sanitation i.'lß-I 4s ad, contractors' deposits £23 23 6d. drainage maintenance £238 18s Bd, drainage extension £116 7a -Id, water loan interest £205 7s sd. Councillor Blyth suggested that tho (lower plots in the Uomsin should be up ;ind potatoes planted, but as the term of the Council had expired no action wa3 taksu. Councillor Cartwright contended that the telephone bureau should be kcyt open on holidays, as on Knster Monday three accidents hud occurred, one being of a serious nature, and me<lical aid hud to be sought by The Mayor ruled that a notico Ol motion was necessary.
