CORRESPONDENCE
RISE IN FARMING IMPLEMENTS. TO THE EDITOR OF "THK TRUSS." Sir, —Replying to Mr "\V. G. Gallagher, the list of seven implements I gavo m y first l ettcr was . hardly intended as a hard and fast list of what a farmer would need for growing 200 acrcs of wheat, though I think on ordinary land they could bo mado to do. It. was intended to show that the rise in pricc was nothing liko what had been alleged, and was such a bagatelle that it vvas not worth mentioning. If priceof implements fyad been advanced 300 per cent, instead of 31.32 since the beginning of the war, it could only affect the new man starting who had a full set to purchase, and even then could only add at most a matter of a penny or twopencc to the cost "per bushel. To the regular wheat-grower, who had been in the business for 20 to 20 years, and who has a full set, it would not make a difference of the tent?i of a farthing a bushel. As regards men for harvesting work, Mr Gallagher can depend on farmers getting all tie assistance not only from our works but from all business people i in Christchurch who have suitable men. There are quite a lot of experienced country worker* in all the towns and cities, "and good workers too. P. and D. Ihincan could supply at least 50 of the very best for a month or six weeks if necessary. —Yours, etc., J. KEIR. April 7 tk.
