Nominations for the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting close on "Wednesday at 9 p.m u The Easter Handicap, the principal event at the New Zealand Metropolitan Club's Easter Meeting on Saturday, produced one of the best finishes seen at Aldington, Author Dillon winning a great race by a short half length from Admiral Wood, with Adelaide Direct only a head away third. These three horses finished in tho same order in the New Brighton Handicap at the New Brighton Club's Summer Meeting in December. On that occasion Admiral Wood established a New Zealand race record by covering two miles in 4-mhi 23 3-oth sec, but on Saturdav he improved on this time by a fifth of a second, cutting out the distance in 4min 23 2-oth sec. The track at Addington on Saturday was in capital order, and in mo6t of. the races the placed horses improved considerably on their handicap times. J Brankin met with bad luck on Saturday at Addington. Ho wag riding Mokau in tho Fendaltou Handicap when the horse fell, anu his rider was rathor badly bruised and shaken. Brankin was brought into town to have his injuries attended to, and though lie returned to tho course later on ho was unable to start any of his team during the day.
