CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

AUTUMN MEETING.

Though the fields will l>c small in one w two races, there should bo a fine afternoon's sport at Riccarton to-day, when the Canterbury Jockey Club's Autumn. Meeting will bo commenced. The city itj practically full of visitors, and if tho present beautiful weather holds, there will bo something approaching a record attendance. Tho usual fino tram service to the course will be available for jfl who wish to go out that way, and ior those people living in the south end, i good train service has been arranged. The first raco is timed to start at noon. The Champagne Stakes has unfortunately been reduced to a match between listland and Gamecock, but they are a couple of good two-year-olds, and should put up a good race. Tho Easter Handicap has drawn a field of seventeen, and all of them are now at headquarters, but in ono or two cases difficulty is being experienced in securing suitable riders, and. there may be some withdrawals on this account. "With Croesus, Tete-a-Tetc, Oxenhope, Panni 11 re, and Sasanof included in the field, there are some brilliant performers in tlic top-weight division, but some of tlic-so lower down tho list, such as Gaaioue, Mcrgerine, and Good Hope, siro nrst-class gallopers, and the race should bo one well worthy of such a good stake. The Russley Plate, for two-year-olds, will furnish an interesting contest, and so also will .tho Gimcrack Handicap and Courtenay "Welter.
