Troupe, and waG enthusiastically received. • Dnring the evening the "Appeal Song" was sung by members of the party, tho sum of £1 9s as a result being thrown on the stage, and at a convenient interval a'recitation by little Miss Marjorie Gilmour (who was-dressed. as a nurse) benefited the fund by a further 16s 6d. Donations in kind and money were reoeived from residents of tho district, and gifts were also received from Messrs Petersena, Stewart Dawson, Coates, Bates, Buxton, Beath's, and Yo<*aa, At the' close of the concert tho various gifts were dieposed of, and as a result of the combined effort tho branch has benefited to the extent of £42. The committee desires to thank, those who helped' to make tho evening such a; success, and. especially',Messrs Hawkes, Btiick, and Redpath and Son, for motoring, the concert party out free of charge. LITTLE RIVER. On Tuesday Miss Freeman, of the Christchurch Central Depot, gave an address on Red Cross work. The' work do no by the Little River Red Cross Branch was. on the tables, and. mado an imposing array. During 'tho past fortnight work waß sent in by Mesdames Line, D. Thompson, Newton. Patten, Gilbert, J. Chapman, Peake, Wynn Williams, H. Chapman, Aitken, Joblilt, Ue3her, the Mi&scs Cameron. Vorcoe, and Lewthwaite. Donations are acknowledged from Mesdames Gilman, H. Lewthwaite, Newton, and Jas. Joblin (Comforts Fund). CITY BRANCH. Mr J. W. K. Lawrence, hon. HORNBY-ISL7.N GTOX. At the monthly meeting of the HornbyIslington Red Cross Branch, Mrs Vickery oresidod. The resignation of Mrs A. Morton as president was accepted with regret, and it was decided to placc on record appreciation of the faithful services slie had rendered the branch during her term 'of office. Tho secret tan- reported that during the month the funds had been supplemented by £15 2s Cd, proceeds of Tramway Band concert; by £13 from Mr A. Morten, "being proceeds of sale of heifer; and by a special donation of £1 from Mrs J. Rountree, Islington. Old linen and blankets had been received from Mrs Morten. socks from Miss Wilson, and Balaclavas from Miss Kinninmouth. A lied Cross rally was hesld on March 30th,, when a very in- . teresting lecture on Red Cross work wan given by Miss Freeman, after which several ladies signified their intention of joining the branch. GARDEN FETE AT KAITUNA. A most successful garden fete was held in Mr W, Gray's grounds a* Kaituna in air! of tho Kaituna Girls' Soldiers' Sewing Club. Produce, sweets, and ice cream stalls were arranged in different parts of the grounds. A fortune-teller was a great attraction, and the shooting gallery wa3 also very busy. A charge was made for croquct and tennis, and the courts were occupied all the afternoon. During the afternoon about 150 C.Y.C. men, under Majors Deans and Overton, arrived, and added greatly to the success of the fete. Afternoon "tea, was served on email tables, and was done full justice to. About £10 was made by the gir's' efforts.
