KAIAPOI ITEMS.
The departure of fifteen infantry volunteers from' F.aiapoi lor Itangiora, where the men from the 13th Regiment were inspected by Colonel E. Richard-son-yesterday, attracted a largo concourse of-citizens, headed by Mr J. W. Barnarfl (Mayor). He wished them Godspeed and a, safe return, and ringing cheers wore given as the train began to move.
A letter has been received from the. Hon. R. Moore, M.L.C., regretting that" ho was unaible to be present at tho meotirig.on Thursday overiing, and .enclosing a donation to the fund of £10.
In addition to the sums i-er>ort<vl. t?ie following have been received:—E. E. Papprill .£lO, D. Heney £5, A. G. Ashby £5, H. Mellor £o and W. E. Parnham £o. The Ivaiapoi Working 'Men's Club has put up a notice of motion to give £25. Mr F. ChtimberJain has undertaken to attend to tho teeth of the men offerintr for.tie front, also their wives and children.
At the patriotic, meeting on Thursday niplit, the commitipe elected vrns — The Mayor, Town Clerk, Cr. H. C. Rovell, "Messrs T. T(. Leitihearl R. Evans. R. O. Dixon, E. C. 13. Lord, T. Hassnll, sen., James Wright, R. Evans, H. 3Telntosh, W. Tait X E Papprill. R. Wylie, J. H. Blackwell, J. L. Conlan, >Reve. Dean Hyland, J. Holland. P. "VV. Faircioufrh. A. I<aishley. Captain He"vfon vat ion Army"). and Pastor J. Jones, with power to add to their number. The committee will meet on Monday, at 7.30 p.m., for general business and the appointment of a secretary and treasurer.
