PARAD Z AT LYTTELTON
MEN VOLUNTEER FOR SERVICE.
Tho Officer Commanding x -he District (Colonel R. A. Chaffey), accompanied by Colonel C. J. Cooper, of the
Coastal Defence Forces, last night, at I tho Lytteiton Drill Shed, inspected the Lytteiton Garrison Artillery, No. 4 Company N.Z.G.A.T., under Captain J. P. E. Veale, Lieutenants A. Evenden and F. Harris, the Lytteiton Senior Cadets (under Lieut. Andereon), and the Coast Defence Band (under Captain W. H. Ki»c). The parade state was as follows :-— Lytteiton Garrison Artillery, 3 officers and SO rank and file; Senior Cadets, 1 officer 56 rank and file; Coast Defence Baud, I officer and 20 rank and file. Colonel Chaffey, addressing tho mensaid, that ho was pleased at the splendid parade and appearance of the troops. He stated that a number of men would bo required for duty at Fort Jervois, and called for volunteers stating that thirty would be needed for duty the following day. Thirtyfour of the men on parade instantly handed in their names, and it was subsequently announced that the whole oi the company would be ready to take, service as soon as they were able to obtain the neces*-ary leave from their employers.
