HON. W. FRASER AND THE, EXPEDITIONARY FORCE.
(SPECIAL TO "TH-R PRESS.") WELLINGTON, August 3 In the Press Association report of the Hon. William Frasers speech at Takapau on Saturday afternoon appears tho following-" passage : —"Thev could not send men to the front from here j that ' was non* sense." _\lr Fraser stated m reply to an enquiry , to-day that this statement was not made by him without comment or qualifications. What ho did say was that it would be nonsense to send men from here to Phirope, becauso it would be impracticable. Canada had offered troops, but Canada was in a very different position, being only six days from Europe, whilo wo were about 50 days. It was quite possible, however, that an expeditionary force ifrom New Zealand might be used / somewhere in the Pacific or in this hemisphere for Imperial purposes. Ho added that the New Zealand Government would bo, prepared to do whatever the Home Government might ask thorn to do for tho advantage of the Empire.
