ELLESMERE.
At the monthly meeting of the Elleamere County Council there were present:— Councillors J. Storry (chairman), J. C. Free, J. Cunningham T A. Stephens, F. J. Lemon, and J Lochhead. Messrs F. G. Frampton, J. A. Sqott, James Marshall, L. T. Hartnell, M, O'Neill, and "W. H. Jamieson, for drain cleaning were granted. Mr S. C. Doyle, of Lake Fiat, waited upon" the Council, and asked that the deepening of the Ellesmero Village Settlement drain should bo carried out as Boon as possible, to obviate damage to his property by flood waters. The Council promised to accede to Mr Doyle's request. The stock ranger and registration fee collector reported that the stray stock seized during the month comprised 110 cattle and 12 horses, whihit the stock impounded totalled 63 head. The driving and pound fees amounted to £7 Iβ. The ranger urged the Council to have a new pound built as soon ac possible. The street channels in Leeston were being kept in good order, but some of the street lamps needed attention. The engineer placed before the Council, in his monthly report, a list of the roads and bridges requiring attention. The channelling on Lake road, Leeston, had been completed. The Council decided to have two wooden bridges over. tho Doyleston drain repaired temporarily, and to go into tho question of building two ferro-concrete bridges in the neac future. It was decided to issue a notice warning people against taking shingle from any of the CounciTs pits j without first obtaining permission. The question of metalling portion of High street, Leeston, was left in the hand* of Crs. Lochhead and Lemon, and tho engineer.
