At the invitation ,of Mr and Mra T. Masetteld, of Gougli's Bay, a large number of Peninsula sportsmen assembled for tho annnial ''meet" on Thursday. On arrival tho party wore entertained at. luncheon., after which they adjourned to Crown Island, where several haros were put up, and some exciting runs enjoyed. The Peninsula Troop of the C.V.C. held their annual ball at Akaroa' on Thursday evening, which was very largely attended, several office! - ? and
troopers from other part* of Cantorbury being present, The hall was strikingly decorated. Dancing was kept up with spirit till an early hour, and the function was tho most successful yet held by the company.
