ASHBURTON.
At tho fortnightly meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council tho Mayor reported a total debit balance of £6406 10s sd. Ilia revenue received since
last meeting was £231 los 4d.' Notieo was given of the Council's intention to strike a general rate of Is 9d in tho £, a water rate of 6d in the £, a sanitary rate of 10s per annum, and £1 per an : num where pans were upstairs.* The question of the speed limit for motorcats and other vehicles crossing the Ashburton bridge was discussed, but no action was taken.
At tho quarterly meeting of the Ashburton Sunday School Workers' Association the question of the United Band of Hope Organisation was discussed, and it was decided that the resuscitation of the movement bo referred to the respective* ministers and superintendents of Sunday schools.
The Ashburton F_jg Circle, the membership of- which is steadily increasing, forwarded 60 dozen of eggs to Dunedirt last week. The sum of 2s 3d per. doaen was received for those of first grade, and 2s 2d for second grade, and aftei all expenses had been deducted thr poultrymen netted 1* lljd per dozen, which is -an increase oh the prices obtainable in Asbbiirton. In a letter t<« the Egg Circle a large Dunedin firm stated that the" eggs had been earefulb examined by their produce man, and that he had pronounced them the best he had ever handled.
The Ashburton Borough Council ha decided, on the motion of .Cr. J. B Christian, to invite Messrs Reade and Davidge, representatives of .the Cites and Town Planning Associatio" of London, to assist Ashburton and lee turo iv that town. .
