MINERS' SHIFTS.
A NEW SOUTH WALES AWARD
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received May 21st, 8.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 21. The Northern Miners' Wages Board, in its award, refused the miners' demand for increased rates on tho afternoon shift at the Maitland collieries. The award has a currency of three years.

Judge Edmonds, in delivering the award, said the working hours of coal miners might reasonably bo limited to one shift with advantage to the whole community, provided tho supply of coal was sufficient to meet public demand.
The Government has appointed a commission to enquire into the abolition of tho third shift.
