The election for the North-East Derbyshire seat, rendered vacant by the death of Mr W\ E. Harvey (Labour), resulted: —

Major Dowden (Unionist) ... 6469 Mr John Hampton (Liberal) 6155 Mr James Martin (Labour) 3668 Unionist majority, 314.

(The last election resulted:—W. E. Harvey (Labour) 7833, J. Court (U.) 6088.

Major Dowden states that ho fought the election on the issues of Homo Rule and insurance, which, he claims, should be voluntary.
