JOTTINGS FOR FARMERS.
The following nominations were received yesterday by the Northern A. and P. Association for tne annual meeting:—President, Mr Alexander Mclntosh, of Southbrook; vice-president, Messrs T. Leech and J. D. "Wyllie; hon. treasurer. Mr T. J. Hunter; auditor, Mr C. I. Jennings. A ballot will bo taken for the general committco of twentyfour, for which thirty-five nominations have been received.
Autumn-sown crops in South Canterbury are now.to he scon showing well tho ground. The grain was sown with the ground in good order, and with favourable weather conditions it got a pootl start,. The area sown,, however, appears to b<* «iiialler than ueual, a stato'of affairs which it attributed to tho difficulty experienced in getting farm labour.
"The New Zealand Trade Review ,, gives the following figures showinj? thft exports of frozen meat to the United Kingdom from New. Zealand for the current season (September-April), a» compared with those for last season:— Mutton 1,511,470 carcases. lamb 1,914,022 carcases, beef 116,689 quarters. The figures for last season were*: —Mutton 1,135,746 carcases, lamb 1,675.624 carcases, beef 51,893 quarters. It will thus be seen that there was an increase of 375,724 carcases of mutton. 238,393 carcases of lamb, and 65.296 quartets of beef over last season's shipments.
