ASHBURTON.
The Ashburton police raided a house in Allenton on Monday and a small quantity of liquor was seized. The same phce was raided last' week, but on that occas'on no liquor was iound on the premises. It is understood a prosecution will follow. Mr Jolri Studholmo, a member oi the Ashburton County Council, has given notice of motion as follows: — "That, with the view pf giving every inducement to the lessees of County Council reserves to satisfactorily carry cut conditions of their leased, and to treat the lard and trees, where Buch t'xist, in a proper manner, <ho method of dealing with theso reserves shall he.ncofortb. bo as follows, namely:—On tho termination of any lease, provided the Council decidp? to rolet the land
:n ono -/lock, and provided tho outgoing tenant has, in tho opinion of the Council, satisfactorily ' complied with all terms and conditions of his lease, then such outgoing tenant shall be given tho option of a renewal of the leaso of tho laud tor tho term of tho now lease nt"such upset rental as shall bo fixed, after a revaluation by tho Council; and that, in tho event of such tenant- not accepting such renewal, the lease should he put up to auction as heretofore, but subject to tho above-oxjibiined r'jzhts of renewal." At the monthly meeting of the Court Star of Ashburton, A O.K. hoio' <n Jvtonday evening, after the business had been transacted. Dr. C. E. Russel Rendlo gave a very interesting address on his voluntoering days in Scotland. There was a very largo attendance at the Church of ChrisC Ashburton, on Monday evening, whon Mrs Naldcr. a Canadian lady, save an address on- the work <3ni(> in India by the Ramabai and Mukti Mission.
