GRAND THEATER.

The excellent programme screened at the Grand Theatre yesterday drew crpwded attendances at'all sessions. The programme had been well chosen, and contained" a good variety of subjects. Pride of place, of course, must be given to the star feature, '"'Amid Raging Beasts." The Selig Company has produced many animal dramas, but this is one of their best productions. A number of wild boasts are introduced, leopards, lions, an elephant, and A large ape. There are many thrilling incidents, notably, when a starving lion swims out to a raft on which are three human beings. The animal is beaten off with difficulty. A very interesting plot is built round tho. many exciting episodes, in which the hero and heroine emerge triumphant and the villain of tho piece receives the vengeance of a huge elephant, by being trampled to death. The photography and the setting of the picture are in keeping with the reputation of the Selig Company. Six other pictures support the "star." There are three humorous films—"The Speedy Messenger," "Hawkeye, the Hall Porter," and "Levi and McGuinness." the last-nanied being one of the funniest pictures seen in Christchurch for a long time past. An exciting drama, entitled "The Escape," is worth noting. A scenic, "On the Adriatic," and the '"Eclair Journal," complete a very good programme. The latter depicts the Cambridge-Oxford Boat Race, in addition to a number of latest topical news. The same programme will be repeated to-day and to-night.
